Teaching and Learning

About Us
The Office of Teaching and Learning is a department that does not act alone at San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (SMCISD). Working in cooperation with educators, parents and the community, our department collaborates on curriculum programs and projects that benefit children's education. We are determined to bring forth the best tools and valuable resources to it's members.

Teaching and Learning and its powerful force works on behalf of every child in our district to "empower minds, inspire students" and ultimately produce the successful student.

Our Mission
The mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to promote student learning in the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District by providing the curricular support to enhance campus and district initiatives.

Our Vision
To center our work on curriculum leadership and re-conceptualization of the curriculum and instructional delivery system to promote student learning at SMCISD.

What We Believe
A community of learners values and honors learning. It is a place where all participants- teachers, principals, parents and students - engage in learning and teaching. Within a community of learners, to be a “teacher” is to know something and to be able and willing to share it with others; to be a “student” is to want to learn and to care about learning something. Teaching and learning, therefore, are not bound by age or role.

Our Goals

  • Develop an educational blueprint that supports the work of schools in implementing data driven, research-based best practices for continued school improvement
  • Align professional development systems to sustain campus-based capacity through a district-wide infrastructure
  • Foster a strong culture of reflective practice
  • Strengthen the Pre-K-16 pathway between elementary, secondary, and post secondary education.
