Substitute Teacher Information

SUBSTITUTE APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED

Minimum Requirements: 
A substitute teacher must have a minimum of 30 hours of college credit or 50 hours of documented work with students within the district during the past 12 months, and be available to work at least two days per week.

Orientation Requirement: 
All substitutes new to San Marcos CISD must attend an Orientation session prior to working as a substitute teacher for San Marcos CISD. Dates for the sessions will be announced as part of the application packet. It is believed that providing this opportunity will enhance the educational program and that it will help substitutes in the performance of their duties. 

Substitute Salary:
A substitute teacher will receive the following pay:

Daily Rate 1-10 days: $70.00
Daily Rate 11-30 days:  $75.00
Daily Rate 30+ days:  $80.00
Certified Teacher Substitutes:  $85.00 per day 
 
Application Procedures:
(Application packets are available at the Central Office located at 501 S. LBJ)

  • Complete a substitute application form.
  • Provide an official college transcript verifying a minimum of 30 college credit hours.
  • Provide a record of examination and verification of freedom from active tuberculosis infection dated within the past 12 months.
  • Complete I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form.
  • Complete a Criminal History Authorization release form.
  • Complete W-4 Withholding Allowance form.
  • Meet the requirements for SB9 Fingerprinting
  • Schedule to attend a Substitute Orientation.

Fingerprinting Requirements

Senate Bill 9 requires that all substitute teachers be fingerprinted.  You must either submit proof that you have been fingerprinted through the State Board for Educator Certification fingerprinting process or get fingerprinted.

You will be provided a Fast Pass for fingerprinting.  It will be your responsibility to register, secure an appointment, and get fingerprinted before orientation.  You must provide the receipt from IBT as proof that you have been fingerprinted to sign up for orientation. 

Fee:      $50.20 if paid by check or money order; $51.59 if paid by credit card
