Next Community Forum Set for Tonight

|
In fall 2007, the San Marcos community in cooperation with E3 Alliance held a series of public dialogues about the state of education in the area. The purpose was to help identify strengths and weaknesses and help create solutions. From those initial discussions came various initiatives within San Marcos CISD and several community educational developments, one of which involved forming the partnership of SOAR (Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results) that has held local education fairs, conducted college workshops, held book drives for preschoolers, and much more. It is time for the community dialogues to take the next step, and input from the public is requested. Two 2010 workshops are scheduled for February 4 and 11, from 6-8:30 pm, at the San Marcos High School cafeteria. The E3 Alliance, SOAR, and San Marcos CISD will be sponsoring the dialogue series. Again, forum participants will be divided into small groups with trained moderators. After group discussions, ideas will be recorded and shared with both the local school district and with regional groups in the greater Austin area. A light dinner of pizza and a drink will be provided to all participants beginning at 5:15 PM. The focus of the 2010 dialogues will be “Workforce Approaches for the 21st Century,” and will center on the global marketplace and ideas of firm educational foundations, academic achievement, and what Central Texas communities are doing to adequately prepare a qualified workforce.
Superintendent Dr. Patty Shafer says, “It is necessary to remember that the local schools serve the community now and in the future. Therefore, it is important that the school district and trustees receive input from the citizens as to perceived needs and directions that the community would have us go.” Early registration is encouraged, as seating may be limited. To pre-register or address questions, email deliberataivedialogues@gmail.com or call 512-393-6744. Free childcare will be provided for children no longer in diapers.
