Mr. Thaizam Hogue
"Ask how and I will tell you the answer. Ask why and I will tell you a story."
Thaizam Hogue was born in the Philippines and raised in Southern California. In his early childhood, Mr. Hogue attended a private Christian school, a few different local public schools, and was even homeschooled for a brief period of time. As a child, Mr. Hogue was the typical boy who would spend a great deal of time on video games, imagining there were dragons, and building forts out of cushions and blankets. Entering his teenage years, he found himself volunteering to be a counselor at many different camps. He worked at many different types of sites such as winter camp and summer camps, before finding a new interest in educational type camps that were being offered by local schools. At the time, Mr. Hogue found this as a fun way to pass time during his summers, but he did not know it would play a major roll later in life. A good amount of Mr. Hogue's classroom management strategies come from these experiences. Because of this, Mr. Hogue believes that positive reinforcement is the best way to encourage his students to grow. Due to Mr. Hogue's past, he has ton's of strategies that keep students engaged and his creativity helps to modify even the most mundane of lessons into a fun collaborative learning experience.
Mr.Hogue entered Texas State University in 2009. He studied Computer Science for years before switching majors and graduating with a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing. After obtaining his degree, Mr. Hogue's passion for teaching had a resurgence when he volunteered on a whim for Educational Camp Good Samaritan. Before the camp was even finished, Mr. Hogue knew wanted to reach out to the younger generations beyond what educational camps could offer. He immediately sought to obtain his certification through Texas Teachers.
Today, Mr. Hogue draws from his past experiences to help transform his classroom into the fun, engaging and creative environment that he has been a part of his whole life. Mr. Hogue believes that, "Course content needs to be rigorous to make the students critically think - but, in order to critically think, students need to also be creative."
Conferences will be from 7:35 - 8:35. The best way to setup a conference with me will be to contact the Dezavala front office (512) 393-6250. They will let me know to contact you and we can set up a meeting. This is to not take away any instructional time from the students during the day. Please give me at least a day's notice so I have time to prepare to answer any questions you may have.
