Mrs. Rosalba Merchant

Hi! My name is Rosalba Vasquez Merchant and I am a Special Education teacher at De Zavala Elementary School. I have a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction-Reading.

As a special education teacher, I work with all grade levels but the majority of my time is devoted to 4th grade students where I co-teach with 4th grade teachers in reading, writing, and math.

I've been teaching for 28 years, part of those years at Texas Hill Country School where I worked with adults and adolescents and helped establish that school as a Texas Non-Public School and at Hays CISD at Tobias Elementary. I have been with San Marcos CISD at De Zavala for 13 years.

San Marcos is where I was born and raised and it's very rewarding to serve the community in which I grew up. I come from a large family--youngest of 7!  My husband is also a teacher at Mendez Elementary. We have 2 wonderful boys--one in college and one in high school. We love our 2 shelter dogs!

I love gardening and help sponsor the garden club at DZ for our students. I also serve on the Board of Directors of Community Action Incorporated, a social service agency that assists those in Hays, Caldwell, and Blanco counties.
