My name is Paul Koonz. I have lived in San Marcos, on and off, since I graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1993. This is my fourth year working in the Crossroads transition program. I have been teaching and working in schools for seventeen years. My teaching career began in Guanajuato, Mexico where I taught English to children and adults in a private language school. I have been fortunate to work in a variety of positions with SMCISD, including teaching kindergarten, Focus, resource/inclusion, and district behavior specialist. I also spent a couple of years in Cairo, Egypt where I taught fourth and fifth grade learning support at Cairo American College. Working with young adults at Crossroads has been the most rewarding and exciting job that I have had.
I have two wonderful daughters who are students at Miller and Crockett. My wife, Jennifer Koonz, teaches third grade at Mendez Elemtary School. We all love this town and being part of SMCISD and the San Marcos community. We are a family of semi aquatic mammals, and can be found swimming in the gorgeous San Marcos River just about any time that we are not working or traveling. We often spend our summers traveling in Mexico. I speak some Spanish, albeit awkwardly.
Crossroads students meet from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. Students may arrive at 7:45.
I can be reached through the Special Education office (512-393-6933), email, or cell phone. Please contact me through my email (email@example.com) for my cell number. I carry my cell phone when I am working at Crossroads. I will return calls and texts as quickly as possible.
My conference time is at 3:00 pm daily, but I can be available to meet at other times as needed.
