COLLEGE, CAREER, & MILITARY READINESS AT SMCISD

Preparing our students for life beyond high school is a priority in San Marcos CISD. As a district, we are committed to providing opportunities to experience college and career exploration as early as elementary and continuing until high school graduation and beyond. It is never too early to start planning your future and becoming ready to thrive in the world.

The goal for SMCISD College & Career Readiness is to provide awareness and experiences that can inform our students about opportunities in the college, career, and military arena. Our Office of Academics works with all campuses to provide exploration and planning that aligns to the interests of our students and the future needs of our community. In partnership with our surrounding neighbors, we encourage all students and parents to start planning early for their life after high school.

K-12 COLLEGE & CAREER EXPLORATION

In San Marcos CISD, College & Career Readiness begins as early as elementary school, and continues through the end of high school.  By providing engaging exploration activities, guest speakers, and field trips, students become aware of the opportunities that college, career, or the military can offer. Our belief is that by having these conversations early on in a student’s academic life will allow them to become more deeply informed about their future opportunities. In collaboration with our CTE program, AVID, Schoolinks, and campus staff, and the SMHS Rattler Resource Center we provide multiple opportunities for interactions with real life experiences to help shape their long-term goals in education. PLANNING FOR GRADUATION

San Marcos CISD students can choose a graduation plan that best fits their post-secondary goals. The Foundation High School Programs allow multiple ways for them to pursue their core graduation requirements. By choosing an Endorsement (area of concentration), students can pursue their interests with an in-depth knowledge of a particular subject area. Find out how we can help you start planning your future pathway.

COLLEGE PLANNING

It's never too early to start having the conversation about planning for college. SMCISD offers students the resources and guidance to assist with making a plan for college.   In addition to Schoolinks college and career exploration, we offer toolkits and grade-specific guides that contain information that you will need to know to initiate your college journey.
If you have questions after you have completed your research, contact your campus CCMR specialist and/or your school counselor.

CAREER PLANNING
San Marcos' CTE program plays a vital role in preparing our students for their future careers. Our K -12 career exploration program sets our district apart by providing our students with opportunities to find careers that align with their interests. Students can begin taking CTE courses in middle school, which count towards pathway completion, leading to certification and CTE program completion. With over 21 programs of study, our CTE program offers something for everyone! Please visit our CTE web page to further explore what is available. If you have questions regarding any program of study, please reach out to your counselor.
