Teacher Externships

An externship is an experience outside the parameters of one's own domain that allows educators to spend a period of time at a worksite and provides the experience of exploring and learning about the workplace and community at large.  Externships provide educators with the opportunity to incorporate the experiences gained in the workplace with academic instruction.

• The teacher will attend an orientation to meet their business partner and develop a plan for the externship.
• The teacher will work with a participating business for ten, 4-hour days. These days will be determined by the teacher and the business and take place between June 1 and mid-July, 2026.
• The teacher will conduct a series of interviews of various personnel at their jobsite to learn more about the inner workings of that business.
• The teacher will maintain a journal of their experience over the course of their placement.
• The teacher will create a lesson plan for their classes, based on what was learned in the externship, for use in the Fall 2026 semester.
• The teacher will attend a final gathering with business partners to discuss the program, provide feedback for future use, and share experiences with their colleagues.

• The deadline for submission is AP-ril 13.
• After the deadline, teachers will be contacted and given their business partner and contact information to plan when their ten days will take place.
