Mr. Rosas’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) students in Miller Middle School's Manufacturing program are turning leftover wood scraps into something practical—wooden toolboxes!

As part of their latest project, students are measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing their toolboxes while putting their woodworking skills to use. The project gives students an opportunity to work with real materials, follow a building process, and see their efforts take shape into something they can use.

It’s a great example of how a CTE classroom provides students with opportunities to create, build, and learn by doing—while making good use of materials that might otherwise go to waste.

Science in action! Ms. Harrison’s class at Hernandez Elementary put their investigative skills to work by exploring how different materials dissolve in water. From making predictions to recording observations, our young scientists were learning by doing!

The San Marcos High School Cross Country teams hit the course bright and early Friday morning, bringing the stamina and determination to the Hays Invitational at Five Mile Dam Park in San Marcos! Isabela Hathcock led the way in the Varsity Girls race, finishing 28th out of 229 runners and crossing the finish line as the second overall freshman in the race! Students were engaged in hands-on learning across Travis Elementary on September 3!

In Ms. Vasquez’s art class, students explored Zentangle patterns, using creativity, focus, and imagination to create unique designs. In Ms. Garcia’s class, students strengthened their English Language Arts skills by reading an excerpt from the story Fire and diving into reading and comprehension. In the library, students brought the stories they were reading to life by building and creating items inspired by their books—connecting literacy with hands-on creativity.

Our Hernandez Elementary Dual Language students are becoming heroes of their own learning! Students in ELAR focused on reading and strengthening their comprehension skills by thoughtfully answering questions, demonstrating their understanding of texts, and using textual evidence to support their responses. Through meaningful reading experiences, these young heroes are building the critical thinking and literacy skills needed for continued success!

Our 4th graders are building a strong foundation for future learning through hands-on science and thoughtful exploration!

Ms. Redfern’s 4th grade class was hard at work creating their science journals, documenting their learning and building the foundation for scientific thinking.

Ms. Coppo’s class was exploring physical properties, observing, describing, and making connections as young scientists!

We love seeing our students ask questions, make observations, and discover how the world around them works.

From math to ELAR and everything in between, Rodriguez Elementary students were engaged, curious, and ready to grow the Knight Way.

Third grade Knights in Mrs. Terry’s class, students explored the Distributive and Commutative Properties while building their math skills and problem-solving strategies. In Mrs. Hernandez’s ELAR class, students strengthened their reading comprehension by analyzing text, identifying key details, making connections, and using evidence to support their understanding.

Meanwhile, second graders across Rodriguez Elementary are diving into a unit on tall tales through the story of John Henry. As students read about the legendary folk hero, they are also learning about the history behind the construction of the railroad and the Big Bend Tunnel. Throughout the unit, students are connecting history and storytelling while identifying the larger-than-life characters, exaggerated events, and other key characteristics that make a story a tall tale.

The San Marcos High School Lady Rattlers took on the Lady Hawks of Canyon Lake on Tuesday, September 2 inside the Snake Pit and closed out non-district play on Friday, September as they traveled to Marble Falls.

The Lady Rattlers will open up district play on Tuesday, September 8 at home as they take on Pieper High School. Varsity is scheduled for a 7PM start - come out and support our Lady Rattlers!

SMHS English classes took on an 8-Mission Library Challenge with Ms. Posey! Working in teams of three, students explored the library, discovered different genres and resources, and learned how to make the most of what’s available.

From the Digital Reading app, Sora, and the Game Center to New Books, technology, transcripts, and college & career resources, students learned to find what they need—and how to use it!

Crockett Kindergarteners are building important developmental skills while exploring the fun and engaging lessons of specials!

In Mr. Ainsworth’s music class, students are learning music theory and keeping a steady beat, which supports listening skills, memory, sequencing, coordination, and early cognitive development. In Mrs. Hall’s art room, students strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, and spatial awareness as they cut, glue, and arrange shapes to design their very own home. And in Coach Giarruso and Coach Perez’s gym, students are developing gross motor skills, balance, coordination, teamwork, and healthy movement habits while staying active and building confidence.

Through every special, our Superstars are exploring, creating, moving, and building the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills that support their growth and development both inside and outside the classroom!
