Regular Route Service Parameters
Transportation is available for children who live two miles or more from their assigned school. The distance a student lives from their assigned school is determined by measuring from the curb at the front of the school to the curb in front of their home using the closest paved street. Students residing within two miles of their assigned school may have transportation available if their neighborhood qualifies as hazardous under the district's hazardous transportation rating system.
Special education students are eligible for transportation if need is established through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal process.
Alternate stops other than At-Home stops are limited to only these criteria defined by the School Transportation Allotment Handbook from the Texas Education Agency:
A. Eligible Regular Program Students:
These are regular and special education students who do not require specialized transportation services as described in subsection I.B and who meet the following criteria for transportation allotment purposes [TEC, §42.155(b)(1), (d), and (k) and §34.007(b)(2)].
1. Home-to-School/School-to-Home Eligible Student: To be eligible… a student rider must:
a. actually be served at an established stop located at or near the student’s residence, grandparent’s home, or state-recognized child care facility (CCF) on a route or a segment of a route
b. meet one of the following requirements:
(3) be transported to or from (1) a parent-designated grandparent’s home or (2) a state-recognized (Department of Family and Protective Services–licensed, –certified, or –registered) and parent-designated CCF. The grandparent’s home or designated CCF location must be an approved stop on an approved route in accordance with school board policy, and the location of the grandparent’s home or CCF must meet the criteria in preceding subsection I.A.1.b(1) or I.A.1.b(2) [TEC, §42.155(k)]; or
(5) be a homeless child or youth who has been identified by your district’s homeless coordinator as meeting the criteria established in Public Law 107-110, Title X, Part C, §725(2), titled the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvement Act (also the No Child Left Behind [NCLB] Act, Title X, Part C) and is being transported back to the school of origin/last campus attended.

Regular transportation attempts to arrive at every bus stop on time. Due to the variances between individual clocks, students are asked to arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time. Buses will load students and depart the stop. Regular buses do not wait for late students under most circumstances. Special needs transportation follows much the same criteria but will wait up to 3 minutes at the stop for the student to load. All buses will wait 7 minutes after release school bell in the afternoon for students to board. Students are expected to proceed immediately to the buses. Bus drivers are instructed not to stop or open the door for late students due to safety concerns having students too close to moving bus wheels.
Regular transportation is scheduled to provide service for student riders. Bus stops that do not have riders for 5 days may be suspended temporarily for lack of ridership to conserve district resources. Infrequent riders should contact the Transportation Department stating their wish to ride when service is needed if their bus stop has historically low ridership to verify stop time and location. New riders or change of address riders who will need to change routes and/or bus stops will be added to their designated route after three (3) consecutive work days so that new bus stop times can be adjusted and notify parents of the new bus stop times.
