Mr. David Schachter

Mr. Schachter grew up in a town of 800 people in Warner, New Hampshire. He earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in cooking school at the University of New Hampshire's Thompson School of Applied Science. However, he quickly realized that he didn't want to grow into middle age doing manual labor and transferred to the UNH English department. There he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in English, with minors in French, Women Studies, and Education. Mr. Schachter decided to take some time to see different parts of the country and gain more life experience than his hometown and the NH seacoast offered and served in AmeriCorps in Tucson, AZ. He ended up living in Tucson for 10 years, where he became an avid mountain and road cyclist, road and trail runner, hiker, and triathlete. In Tucson he worked for some time in retail natural foods, but the lure of teaching reminded him of his path. He attended Prescott College, where he earned his teaching credentials and most of a Master's degree in Sociological Study of Science, Technology, and Industry. A debilitating mountain bike accident gave him time to reflect and he left the program to begin teaching high school English in Tucson's southside. In his third year of teaching Mr. Schachter met his amazing wife on match.com and they quickly moved to Portland, OR, just in time for the Great Recession. As a part of becoming more marketable Mr. Schachter went to Portland State University where he earned a Master's in Education, with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction. After living in Portland for four years they decided that they wanted to move back to the sunny southwest. The two found work in Santa Fe, NM. They lived there for five years. In that time they became parents of a wonderful boy, Oliver. Mr. Schachter's wife realized that she very much wanted to go back to teaching, after a 20 year absence from it, when she taught English at Hays High School. As well, they wanted to be closer to her family and better schools for their son. His wife, Dr. Taylor, got a position as Associate Professor of Anthropology at TX State, her undergraduate alma mater, where she is now tenured. Mr. Schachter began teaching at Rebound and transferred, in 2017, to San Marcos High School. They enjoy gardening, reading, hiking, running, and cycling in the warmth of the weather and the people in Hill Country with their cat, Ginny and recently adopted, elderly Chihuahua, Gucci.
