"Art is the heart's explosion on the world. Music. Dance. Poetry. Art on cars, on walls, on our skins. There is probably no more powerful force for change in this uncertain and crisis-ridden world than young people and their art."
-Luis J. Rodriguez
A spirited thought indeed, yet this spirit drives my passion for reading and writing as a teacher. The influence reading and writing had on me throughout my education is nothing short of empowering. As a teacher, it is my desire to impart the same feeling of empowerment onto the students who read and write inside my classroom. Much change can be had within the world we live through the practice of this art.
Originally from San Antonio, I moved to San Marcos to further my education at Texas State University, and I never left. I have taught both English III and IV during the five years I have spent at San Marcos High School, and I firmly believe my students deserve to engage in an accessible body of literature which is both authentic and affirming to the worlds and realities they encounter.
