I am Martha Chapa. I was born and raised in San Marcos, Texas. I went to our local schools and graduated from San Marcos High School in 1976. I graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in May 1980, with a Bachelors' Degree, and with a Master's Degree in 1987, both in Bilingual Education. While at S.W.T.S.U., I worked in the Early Childhood Center, at which time I began my passion for Early Childhood Education. I remember working in a lab school and wishing that is was a "bilingual" class. From 1980 to 1985, I taught in Seguin I.S.D. Then in 1985 I began my career with San Marcos C.I.S.D. beginning with teaching Pre-K at Bonham Early Childhood Center on Lee St. It was the first year that Pre-K was a grade level in San Marcos, and it was so exciting learning about this grade level and getting to develop the curriculum.
