Eighth graders tour San Marcos High School
Eighth graders from Goodnight and Miller middle schools toured San Marcos High School on Thursday.
Middle school students were welcomed by Principal Cynthia Rinehart and Assistant Principal Shea Bird inside the Performing Arts Center where a pep rally awaited them. High school students in the San Marcos High School band, orchestra, mariachi, cheer team and Diamond Line showcased each program with performances.
“All of these people that performed today, you’ll notice that you didn’t see any of the adults overseeing each of the performances because they are all student leaders throughout their years at the high school so they’re all able to self-regulate and come in here and do this for y’all to show you what opportunities that you’ll be able to do,” Rinehart told the crowd of eighth grade students.
Current SMHS students taking part in extracurricular activities shared their experiences, emphasizing the importance of becoming involved.
Following the program, eighth graders were given tours of the high school campus.
Reinhart invited the students and their parents to attend Course Fair Night at the high school on Thursday, where an eighth grade parent meeting is set to begin at 6:15 p.m.
“All representatives from all core areas [will be in attendance] — our core academic staff, we will have all fine arts staff represented, all career tech will be represented, athletics,” said Rinehart.
