Buck Steyn accounted for six total touchdowns—three through the air and three on the ground—as San Marcos pulled away in the second half to defeat Wagner 52-13 on Friday night at D.W. Rutledge Stadium. Down 13-7 at halftime, the Rattlers made crucial adjustments on both sides of the ball, sparking a second-half surge that included three touchdowns in just 30 seconds.
That outburst kickstarted a stretch of six straight touchdown drives. San Marcos’ defense, consistent all season, regrouped after allowing 13 first-quarter points and completely shut Wagner down the rest of the way.
The passing game came alive with Steyn finding Elliott Gray for back-to-back touchdowns before hitting Jordan Lampkin for a 40-yard score. Gray led all receivers with six catches for 91 yards on seven targets, while Lampkin added five receptions for 88 yards on six targets.
The Rattlers’ ground game also delivered. Donovan Garcia rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, and Justin Tardy led the team with 87 yards, including a long run that helped set the tone in the second half.
The Rattlers will host Lake Travis this Friday at Toyota Rattler Stadium for First Responders Night.
