Rattlers Move to 2-0 in District Play With 30-13 Win Against Clemens

Buck Steyn accounted for three touchdowns — two through the air and one on the ground — as San Marcos powered past Schertz Clemens, 30-13, in District 29-6A play Friday night at Lehnhoff Stadium.

Steyn was sharp all evening, connecting on 18 of 26 passes for 221 yards and no interceptions. Both of his passing touchdowns went to wide receiver Elliott Gray, while his 10-yard keeper midway through the second quarter extended the Rattlers’ lead to 13-0.

Running back Justin Tardy sealed the win in style, breaking loose for a 7-yard touchdown on the game’s final snap to cap off a 103-yard rushing performance.

The Rattlers (4-2 overall, 2-0 district) rolled up 444 yards of total offense but were hampered by a season-worst 14 penalties for 115 yards. Despite the flags — and failing to record a defensive takeaway for the first time this season — San Marcos controlled the game from start to finish. They’ll return home next Friday to host San Antonio East Central at Toyota Rattler Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
