B.S. in Business Administration | University of the Incarnate Word

Suzanne Perkins

I am Suzanne Perkins, a data-driven, collaborative, and integrous assistant principal with a passion for instructional leadership to achieve student success. My education journey began in elementary school when I stayed after school with my mother, who was a paraprofessional at an elementary school on the southside of San Antonio. I would use an empty classroom and pretend to teach stuffed animals in the classroom. What started as something to do to pass the time quickly turned into a calling.

After earning my B.S. in Business Administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, I immediately obtained my alternative certification through the Region 20 Education Service Center. I launched my career as a second-grade teacher for East Central ISD. That first teaching experience taught me how to foster a love for teaching and learning, build a positive environment, and stay adaptable — lessons I carry with me to this day.

Over the past 20 years, I have worked across several grade levels and as an instructional coach. I  am an Assistant Principal at De Zavala Elementary School in San Marcos, Texas, where I am part of a leadership team focused on academic excellence.

But beyond the many titles, as an experienced and passionate educator, I am dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rich environment where every child is empowered to reach their full potential. I believe that strong leadership in an elementary school begins with a deep commitment to collaboration with students, families, teachers, and the community. My goal as principal is to cultivate a culture of curiosity, character, and continuous learning, ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed

Outside of work, you will find me spending time at my children's sporting events, which is one of the most rewarding parts of family life. Balancing this with regular exercise helps maintain both physical and mental well-being, creating energy for busy days and setting a positive example for the next generation. Family time remains at the heart of it all—whether it's gathering around the dinner table, enjoying a weekend outing, or simply catching up after a long day. And when college football season rolls around, it becomes a cherished tradition to come together, root for our favorite team, and enjoy the excitement and camaraderie that make fall weekends so special.
