The Battle of the Books is a reading competition open to 4th and 5th grade students. Teams of up to 4 students have the option to sign up to enter the competition in February of each school year. Each team is responsible for reading the 20 titles that have been selected as Battle Books. Teams may divide up the reading responsibilities amongst themselves as they see fit, though we do encourage students read as many titles from the list as possible.
Each of the teams will compete against each other in a local Battle of the Books in April. The Bowie team that wins the local Battle of the Books will earn the opportunity to move on to the district competition where they will compete with the winning teams from the other elementary schools in SMCISD.
The district Battle of the Books is a competitive event that celebrates reading! The winning team at the district Battle of the Books will earn a trophy for the school to hold for the year, a plaque with engraved names to display in the school library and individual medals for each of the members of the winning team.
