Coach Halatin is returning to the SMCISD for his 14th year of coaching and teaching in San Marcos after 8 years as a Head Basketball Coach at Lockhart and Lehman High Schools. This will be his 22nd year in education. Coach Halatin began his teaching path at Miller 22 years ago as a student teacher/permanent sub. He then spent four years at Goodnight Jr High and nine years at San Marcos High.

Coach Compton is entering his seventh year of coaching and teaching, bringing a wide range of experience across multiple sports. Over the years, he has coached football, girls’ basketball, hurdles, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and also served as an assistant wrestling coach, a true jack of all trades when it comes to athletics.

A 2018 graduate of Texas State University, Coach Compton earned his degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Special Education. His passion for coaching and teaching was shaped early on by mentors who inspired him to pursue this path —his middle school coach, Coach Jackson, who pushed him to go beyond what he thought possible, and his E4 teacher, Mr. Techmansky, who showed him the lasting impact of teaching.

Coach Compton is committed to building student-athletes who not only develop skills on the field, but also character, resilience, and confidence that will serve them for life. Just as importantly, he strives to support his students in the classroom, encouraging academic growth, discipline, and a mindset that prepares them for success beyond athletics.
