I began my educational career in San Marcos CISD in 1996 as an Instructional Assistant at Bonham Pre-K. I have served the district in many capacities. I taught kindergarten for 11 years and 1st grade for 6 years at Bowie Elementary. I taught 2nd grade and 4th grade at Mendez Elementary. In 2017, I became a bilingual instructional coach. During all my years of teaching, I served as a bilingual teacher. This past summer I was the principal for summer school at Bonham Prek. I have been part of the dual language initiative in SMCISD including planning parent engagements, teacher development, and program roll out. This year I will continue to serve the SMCISD community as assistant principal of Bonham Pre-K after 20 years in the district.
I grew up in Port Isabel, TX a small town in the Rio Grande Valley. I moved to San Marcos in 1991 and received my undergraduate degree from Southwest Texas State University in Psychology. I received an Alternative Education Certification in 1998 in Bilingual Education. I recently received my Masters degree from Texas State University in Educational Leadership. I am currently enrolled in a Doctorate program in School Improvement. I am excited to join the Bonham team and collaborate with a group of dedicated educators who have a common goal of meeting the needs of a diverse group of students. My educational philosophy is based on building relationships. I belief that all students can learn, given a safe learning environment, and leadership that is committed to families, students, and teachers.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and fishing. I live in San Marcos with my husband Ray and two children. Andrea (20) attends Texas State University and Risa (16) attends SMHS.
