Absence Documentation
Acceptable documentation must be provided to SMHS within 3 days after the student returns to school.
Notes signed by students, even with the parent’s permission, will not be accepted unless the student is 18 or older and is an emancipated minor under state law.
Failure to present acceptable documentation of an absence will result in the absence being counted as unexcused.

Anticipated Absences
When you know in advance that your child will need to be absent, it is to your educational advantage to talk to your child's teachers and arrange to get assignments ahead of time.
Notes for pre-planned absences should be sent to your Assistant Principal and Attendance Office at least three (3) days before the absences occur to determine if the absences will be excused.
You can check your child's attendance record, grades and schedule at the Home Access Center: HAC/Sign-In
