Juan Carlos Cavazos comes from the border city of Eagle Pass TX where he was a member of the Mighty Eagle Band and section leader of the drumline. While at EPHS, Juan Carlos played guitar in the jazz band and was a charter member of Mariachi Aguilas de Oro. It was through the great experiences afforded to him by the band program that he decided to pursue a career in music education at the young age of 14. 

Juan Carlos attended Texas State University and holds a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis in Classical Guitar as well as a Masters Degree in Music. During his tenure as an undergraduate student, he was extensively involved with Mariachi de SWT, Salsa del Rio, the Bobcat Drumline and numerous other ensembles. 

 Mr. Cavazos has also been a professional musician in the Central Texas area since 1998 where he has played anything from mariachi and salsa, to rock,blues, and funk. He is currently a member of Mariachi Suroeste where he plays guitarron, sings, and designs all their trajes. In his spare time, Juan Carlos enjoys quiet time at home, cooking, practicing and building classical guitars.
