Hector Ramirez
Mr. Ramirez’s love for music was born from the long summer road trips of his youth. Starting in his hometown of Pleasanton, Texas, his family would travel to Jesus Gomez Portugal, Aguascalientes, Mexico, the birthplace of his parents. The hours would fly by as his parents played the music of Camilo Sesto, Los Angeles Negros, Los Pasteles Verdes, and many more. His love for music eventually led him to play the saxophone and pursue a career in Music Education.
Mr. Ramirez obtained his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2016 from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he studied saxophone under the instruction of Mr. James Warth. He also took flute lessons with Dr. Elizabeth Janzen. While in Kingsville, Mr. Ramirez performed with TAMUK’s Saxophone Quartets, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band 1, Latin Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo 1, and Javelina Marching Band. His leadership roles and time with the various ensembles allowed his abilities as an educator, singer, and instrumentalist to grow. During his time at TAMUK, Mr. Ramirez also presented at various research conferences in Texas, as well as at the 2016 National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Asheville, North Carolina.
Upon obtaining his degree from TAMUK, Mr. Ramirez continued his education at Texas State University from 2017-2019. While at TXST he studied with Dr. Russell Haight and obtained his Master of Music degree with an emphasis in jazz performance. While at TXST, Mr. Ramirez played in the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo 1, and sang with Salsa Del Rio. During his time in San Marcos, Texas, Mr. Ramirez worked as a private lesson teacher and freelance musician in the Austin, San Marcos, and San Antonio areas. Throughout his college career, Mr. Ramirez has had the pleasure of performing with musicians such as Luis Conte, Gordon Goodwin, Eric Marienthal, Joel Frahm, and various others. Currently, Mr. Ramirez plays with La 45 in San Antonio.
After obtaining his master's degree, Mr. Ramirez taught at Crockett Middle School in Odessa, Texas before finding his home at Miller Middle School in 2020. At Miller, Mr. Ramirez teaches the beginner woodwind classes, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. Nothing makes him happier than seeing the smile on his student’s faces as they enter and leave his classroom. He aims to create joy in people’s lives through his love for music, and hopes to influence his student’s lives for the better.
