Mr. Danny Maldonado

Mr. Maldonado was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Through his time in NEISD at Jackson Middle School and Lee High School, he spent his time in concert band, jazz band, and marching band. His interest in music began at an early age when he was put in piano lessons. He found an interest in teaching when he would help his friends with their work and offered official tutoring. Seeing the progress and growth of those he helped was inspiring. His love of music and teaching was easy to balance by pursuing the life of a Band Director.

Mr. Maldonado earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2018 from The University of Texas at San Antonio, along with a Minor in Jazz Performance. He studied trumpet under Jan Roller and Dr. Adrian Ruiz. More mentors to include are Mike Steiner, Ron Ellis, Dr. John Zarco, and Dr. Si Millican. Mr. Maldonado moved to San Marcos and continued his education to earn his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from Texas State University in 2020 under the guidance of Dr. Andy Cheetham and the rest of the astounding Jazz Faculty. In his time at Texas State, he performed with the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Salsa Del Rio, Oquestra Del Rio, and the top Jazz Combo directed by the legendary Butch Miles.

During his time in college, Mr. Maldonado worked with various schools in the North and South sides of San Antonio as well as San Marcos. He had the opportunity to assist with concert bands, marching bands, and direct the John Marshall Highschool Jazz Ensemble II. His most recent placement before joining the Miller Staff was as the trumpet instructor for RMT Music.

For several years, Mr. Maldonado has served as an “on-call”  brass musician for various groups including: San Antonio Chamber Wind Ensemble, San Antonio Wind Symphony, Aquarena Springs Symphonic Band, SMART Orchestra, San Antonio Jazz Collective, Austin Jazz Band, Time of Night Brass Band, and other small groups. He also regularly assists with surrounding band camps each summer.

Mr. Maldonado lives in San Marcos with his fiancé, also a music educator, and five cats. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, spending time with family, and playing/improving on his instruments.
