Anne Halsey

Term Ends: 2027

Anne Halsey was elected in May 2015, as an at-large school board trustee. She believes public schools are the backbone of a healthy community and is dedicated to giving all of our children the first-rate education they deserve. She and her husband, Jeff, a history professor at Texas State University, were married in 2002 and have lived in San Marcos since 2010. They have three young children currently enrolled in SMCISD. Originally from Iowa, where her dad was a public school teacher and her mother was a public school nurse, Anne is a proud product of—and champion for—public schools.

She currently serves on the San Marcos Historic Preservation Commission and has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Parent Cooperative Preschool in San Marcos and the Local School Council in Chicago. Anne graduated from Macalester College and received her MFA at New York University. She is writing a book on the life of her great-grandfather, a Presbyterian minister and missionary.

Anne has considerable professional experience in the corporate and nonprofit sectors, and much of her professional career has been focused on supporting significant educational initiatives. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mother, Anne was on the senior staff of an award-winning national literary organization where she directed a multi-million dollar initiative to expand the presence of poetry in the media. Before joining the Poetry Foundation, she worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago conducting policy research and coordinating the activities of the Dean’s office. She got her start in the business world directing and implementing marketing campaigns for several cable networks, including Bravo TV, A&E, and The History Channel.

Anne is a vocal advocate for public schools. She loves San Marcos and is thankful to be able to give back to the community that has welcomed her and her family with open arms. She knows the well-being of her family depends upon the prosperity of our community and the success of our district. Anne believes great things are happening in San Marcos CISD every day and wants to send a new message to every child and family: You belong here and you will succeed here.
