Middle School Summer School
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Summer School! We are excited to have you participating in our 3-week remote learning summer school. We have provided information below on the guidelines and criteria for participation.
According to SMCISD grading guidelines, students must receive a grade of 70 or above in the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies to be considered for promotion to the next grade level. Additionally, the State of Texas requires students to be attendance of classes at least 90% of the time. If your child failed one or more core classes with an average grade below 70 and/or missed more than 8 days for each semester during the 2019-2020 school year, he/she will be required to attend summer school.
Due to COVID 19, San Marcos CISD will offer Summer Course and Attendance Recovery through online remote learning using the Canvas platform for the 2019-2020 school year. Classes (live lessons) will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 8th through June 25th. Summer School is not in session on Fridays. It is imperative that your child have his/her Chromebook or access to a computer and WiFi to be a successful participant in the recovery programs. Please reach out to your campus should you have technology needs.
The recovery program for eligible 6th and 7th grade students will focus on a cross-circular project. Eligible 8th grade students will focus on the core subject areas, including Algebra 1, with time built in for tutorials. Students are expected to attend live lessons online and may not miss more than four total live lessons to be considered for recovery.
SMCISD staff will be in contact with you should your child need course and/or attendance recovery for the 2019-2020 school year to provide more details.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Monica Martin, Summer School Principal, and John Hall, Summer School Assistant Principal, at the following email addresses: monica.martin@smcisd.net, john.hall@smcisd.net.
Sincerely,
Monica Martin
Estimados padres/tutores,

Strenth & Conditioning Summer Workouts
Dear San Marcos CISD Families,
San Marcos CISD Athletics is excited to offer student athletes the opportunity to return to campus for strength and conditioning workouts beginning Monday, June 8 on a voluntary basis. We will implement this plan in 2 phases:
Phase I: June 8th - June 25th (male and female athletes grades 10th through 12th)
Monday through Thursday (boys 8:00AM - 10:00AM; girls 10:30AM - 12:30PM)
Phase II: June 29th - July 17th (male and female athletes grades 10th through 12th)
Monday through Thursday (boys 8:00AM - 10:00AM; girls 10:30AM - 12:30PM)
Adding an incoming 9th grade session for male and female athletes – time of session is TBA
Health and safety protocols for summer strength and conditioning workouts
Following the provided UIL guidelines and in conjunction with local and state requirements, SMCISD Athletics will be offering summer workout opportunities for our incoming 9th – 12th grade athletes at the San Marcos HS Student Activity Center. Individual sport coaches will be reaching out to their athletes to share available dates and times for that sport specific workout session. They will also be setting up a Zoom call prior to the first workout to share some of the procedures we have put in place to keep our athletes safe this summer.
For example, all workouts will require that the athlete have an updated physical (2019/2020 physical on file is sufficient through the summer). All athletes will be assigned to one designated workout group for summer workouts. That workout group will include strength and conditioning instruction as well as sport specific skill work. Athletes will be required to bring their own individual water in their own container each day.
Designated parking spots and entry points to the SAC have been established to limit access to the workout areas and ensure limited group sizes (map of parking is attached). Athletes and coaches will be screened each day as they enter the designated workout area. Screening will include a temperature check. Athletes and coaches will also be required to utilize a hand sanitizing station prior to beginning any workout. All participants are encouraged to use face coverings before, during, and after workouts as well.
Social distancing of six feet between all participants will be used while waiting in lines before, during and after exercising. During exercises, that distance will be increased to ten feet.
Between each group, there will be a minimum of 30 minutes of disinfectant time allotted to ensure all equipment used is adequately sanitized before the next group is granted access to the workout area. Additional sanitizing stations and disinfecting measures are in effect for weight room and athletic equipment that might be used during instruction.
Below is an invite for all parents to join me, John Walsh (new Athletic Director of SMCISD), as I discuss the safety measures and procedures that are in place for our summer strength and conditioning program.
