Board of Trustees

  • The Board of Trustees is the official policy-making body of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District. The seven trustees, five single member districts and two at-large districts, serve staggered 3-year terms. 

    The Board of Trustees meet several times a month during the school year to adopt, review and modify policies and to receive input from staff and the community. All meetings are posted at least 72 hours in advance by the Office of Board Services. The regular monthly board meeting is held the third Monday of every month in the SMCISD board room at San Marcos HS Classroom 11, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Trustees also hold special meetings and work sessions as needed.

Public Forum

  • The regular monthly board meeting includes opportunities for parents and community members to address the board about pertinent school issues. There are two ways to address the board: 1) to speak to an agenda item to be voted upon; or, 2) to speak on a general topic during the Public Forum.

Closed Session

  • Meetings of the SMCISD Board of Education are conducted in accordance with the state's Open Meeting Law. Although all meetings are open to the public, the law also permits the convening of a closed/executive session, a portion of a meeting not open the public. Closed/executive session matters pertain to personnel, real estate transactions, student hearings, negotiated contracts, consultation, and/or legal issues.
