• San Marcos CISD Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we inch closer to the end of the first nine weeks of the academic school year. Next week, SMCISD will host open house nights to give you an opportunity to meet with our district staff.

    Open House Schedule

San Marcos HS – October 4

Middle School campuses – October 5

Bonham and Elementary campuses – October 7

Our campuses will send out additional information for your respective campus. We ask all visitors to wear a mask/face coverings and follow all district safety protocols while inside our school buildings.

    Student Vaccine Clinics

This week, SMCISD is hosting vaccine clinics at all of our secondary campuses to ensure all eligible students have direct access to a vaccine, if they choose to do so. Thank you to our district staff for providing this opportunity for our students.

    TikTok Challenge in SMCISD

If your student has TikTok, you may have already seen that there is a challenge on the social media platform that challenges students to steal and/or break items from school and post on the app. We have informed students that there are consequences for these actions, but please speak with your student(s) that this behavior will not be accepted. Our district staff members in our facility, custodial, and maintenance departments work hard to ensure our campuses and facilities are in the best shape possible for our students.

    National Suicide Prevention Month

With National Suicide Prevention month coming to an end, I wanted all of Rattler Nation to keep in mind prevention is – one conversation, one interaction, one resource at a time. As we continue to build relationships and support each other when faced with stressful situations, understanding the mental health needs of our students, families and colleagues are a priority. Here are a few ways to build resiliency and lessen potential risk factors:

    •       open communication - Communicate with your counselors, your teachers, your administrators.
    •       peer support and close social networks
    •       school and community connectedness
    •       promote healthy living
    •       sense of purpose
    •       mental health resources

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has several mental health resources to support educators. Please take advantage of the learning opportunities and resources provided in the link below. Make sure you take time for yourself. We are here to support you.

    NAMI Mental Health Resources

If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or call 911 immediately.
