• Dear SMCISD Families and Community,

I want to share important information about the release of the 2024 and 2025 A–F Accountability Ratings from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). These ratings were made public on Friday, August 15, at www.txschools.gov.

    Comparison Groups

Each Texas public school is assigned to a unique campus comparison group of 40 other schools that are similar in grade levels served, size, percentage of economically disadvantaged students, mobility rate, and the number of emergent bilingual/English learners and special education students. These comparison groups are used in the TEA A-F Accountability System to determine a school's performance, especially for the School Progress domain and Distinction Designations. You can find specific campus comparison groups for 2025 Accountability on this specific TEA website.

    Campus Distinction Designations

Across 2024 and 2025, A-F Accountability, eight of the eligible ten SMCISD campuses earned at least one Distinction Designation for exceptional performance in areas like academic achievement, student growth, and closing achievement gaps. These distinctions, awarded by the TEA, recognize the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and school communities. Campuses earn Distinction Designations by being in the top quarter of their comparison group for the different areas. As a district, SMCISD earned 19% of the distinctions possible for 2024 and doubled that in 2025, earning 38% of the total distinctions possible.

Overall Growth from 2023 to 2025

Furthermore, we are proud to share that every single campus has shown growth since 2023, which was the initial year that the STAAR test moved away from only being multiple-choice questions and the A-F Accountability system changed significantly to be more rigorous.

    Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

In addition to the Distinction Designations earned through A-F Accountability and overall growth from 2023, our SMHS students showed tremendous improvements on the AP exams in 2025, with 59% of tests earning a score of a three or higher.  This is an improvement from 39% in 2023 and 44% in 2024.  Earning a score of three or higher on an AP exam means the student has demonstrated college-level knowledge and can earn college credit and/or advanced placement at many universities.

The significant improvements across our campuses are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, staff, and families. These accountability results affirm that our strategic efforts are making a measurable impact. We remain deeply committed to ongoing growth and to ensuring every student in SMCISD has access to a high-quality education in a safe, supportive environment.
