WHAT IS AVID
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), is a college and career readiness system. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) is designed to help close the opportunity gap for students. By providing students with the skills and support needed to be successful in rigorous academic classes, AVID paves the way to increase post-secondary opportunities for both college and career. The success of the AVID system is based on four domains that provide support for the district as a whole. Through Leadership, Culture, Instruction, and Systems, AVID cultivates a positive schoolwide impact on academic success.
AVID MISSION
AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
San Marcos CISD is an AVID District and can be found at each of our campuses.
AVID ELEMENTARY
AVID Elementary is a foundational component of the AVID College Readiness System. In AVID Elementary, all students in grades 3 -5 are considered AVID students. In an age-appropriate and challenging way, elementary students develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college. Students at our AVID Elementary campuses learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy. With the presence of college pennants and banners on the walls around the campus, students begin to build a strong college-going culture. Conversations of college and career can begin at a younger and be fostered through the upper grades. These conversations encourage students to think about their college and career plans.

AVID SECONDARY
Although AVID Secondary differs from AVID Elementary in that it is a dedicated elective class. it still has the ability to impact students throughout the campus. AVID Secondary can have an effect on the entire school by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students. Our goal is to implement the new curriculum and tutorials to prepare our students for college and career opportunities. San Marcos CISD has implemented AVID at all secondary campuses completing our AVID district-wide vision.
