• SMHS students enrolled in CTE courses are encouraged to join and participate in their respective Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). CTSOs provide students the opportunity to apply their CTE curriculum in competitive events as well as develop their leadership skills for the future.

  • Business Professionals of America - BPA is the leading CTSO for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.

    Distributive Education Clubs of America - DECA's objective is to support the development of marketing and management skills in career areas such as hospitality, finance, sales and service, business administration and entrepreneurship. Programs and activities are tailored to the specific career interest of students and include technical skills, basic scholastic and communication skills, human relations and employability skills, and a strong emphasis on economics and free enterprise.

    Family, Career and Community Leaders of America - FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences Education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.

    Future Business Leaders of America - FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

    FFA - The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

    Health Occupations Students of America - The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.

    SkillsUSA - A national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

    Texas Association of Future Educators - TAFE is a statewide organization that offers students the opportunity to explore the teaching profession. This is accomplished by creating and supporting various activities, workshops, contests, scholarships, and summer workshops.
