Hernandez Elementary School

As a proud San Marcos native, mom, and lifelong educator, I bring over 35 years of teaching experience to Hernandez Elementary. I currently serve Gifted and Talented students and support David Underwood, Director of G/T and Fine Arts, with UIL A+ Academics for grades 2-5. I also support Lydia Engelhardt, District Curriculum Instructional Specialist, with the Elementary Science Fair.

Community-focused and student-centered, I'm passionate about providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and creativity. I am especially passionate about environmental education. I lead our campus pollinator garden initiative, transforming school grounds into vibrant outdoor classrooms that promote science, sustainability, and a love for nature, inspiring stewardship.

Deeply connected to the San Marcos community, I believe in nurturing the whole child and empowering students to grow into confident, compassionate learners.

Mr. David Loveless

Hello I'm Mr. Loveless, this will be my 11th year teaching in the San Marcos school district. This year, I will serve both Mendez Elementary and Crockett Elementary as the Gifted & Talented Specialist. Mrs. Jennifer Lewis

Hello! My name is Jennifer Lewis and I will be serving students as the GT Specialist at Rodriguez and Bowie Elementary.  I have been teaching for 28 years with 25 of those being at the elementary level.  GT students are my favorite population to work with.

I moved to San Marcos in 1993 to attend Southwest Texas State University and I fell in love with the city.  I married my college sweetheart and we made this our home.  We have 2 kids who are somehow old enough to be in college! My daughter will be starting Grad School at Texas State this fall and my son will be starting at ACC. We are all looking forward to fresh beginnings this school year.

I love spending time outdoors at the beach, the river, or just gardening in my backyard.  I enjoy cooking, reading, and hanging out with friends and family.  I look forward to getting to know my new students and being part of this amazing school community.
