Parent Access & Control
-
San Marcos CISD provides a wide variety of school library materials for students and staff that support student achievement and present varying levels of difficulty, diversity of appeal, and a variety of points of view. Generally, students are allowed to self-select library materials as part of literacy development and the library program.
While our staff is here to assist students in finding books that interest them, the ultimate decision about what is appropriate rests with you and your child.
All physical school library materials can be viewed using our online catalog, and our digital collection of eBooks and Audiobooks can be viewed through Sora (San Marcos CISD login is required). Parents and guardians can control which materials their own children can check out from the district's library system.
Library Book Opt-Out
-
Parents and guardians have the ability to create an Opt-Out List of titles for their own children. Once an Opt-Out List is received, the titles you submitted will be added to your child's SMCISD library account to block them from future checkout.
Please allow 1-2 business days for your request to be processed.
eBook Parental Controls
-
Parents and guardians can manage their child's access to digital books in Sora by using Parent Mode. This feature allows families to lock or unlock specific titles in their student's account. Your student needs to be signed into Sora for you to enable parental controls and use Parent Mode.
How to use Sora Parental Controls
Please Note:
- Access to digital materials is filtered to students by level access. Students only see titles designed for their grade band and below.
- Titles must be locked individually (the ebook and audiobook of a title must each be locked)
- Parent Controls are set per student account. If you have more than one student in San Marcos CISD, you will need to manage each separately.
